CHARACTERS IN MOTION The pictoplasma animation festival puts the style back into animation with a unique overview of outstanding international short films, music videos and motion graphics. In traditional animation, industrial production conditions have created a universally applicable visual system of interchangeable characteristics, predictable movements and a limited gestural vocabulary. Classical character design is the result of a standardized production process, reducing the art to a series of predetermined shapes, volumes and silhouettes. Now however the recent explosion of pictorial logos in the web, advertising and other media has opened the way for a new breed of character design. And these new characters are re-claiming the world of animation! |
Conceived as an alternating event to the biennial pictoplasma conference, the two- day festival showcases a unique overview of outstanding international animation, focusing on new, stylish and surprising character-driven visuals and narratives. |
The Pictoplasma festival not only provides in-depth information on new production processes and possibilities, but invites visitors to indulge in two full days of illuminating screenings, lectures, exclusive presentations and inspiring interdisciplinary exchange. |
