Pictoplasma Animation Festival
Putting the style back into animation.
In traditional animation, industrial production conditions
have created a universally applicable visual system
of interchangeable characteristics, predictable movements
and a limited gestural vocabulary. Classical character
design is the result of a standardized production process,
reducing the art to a series of predetermined shapes,
volumes and silhouettes.
Now however, the recent explosion of pictorial logos
in the web, advertising and other media has opened the
way for a new breed of character design.
And these new characters are re-claiming the world of
animation!
The pictoplasma animation festival showcases fresh character
design in animation. It offers a unique overview of
outstanding international animation, short films and
motion graphics, focusing on new, stylish and surprising
character-driven visuals and narratives.

Next Animation screenings: 5th and 6th of September
PICTOPLASMA NYC,
We are on the search for fresh and convincing
characters out there in the world of moving images!
If you are responsible for high-grade character design
in animation, narration, music visuals or motion graphics,
please don't hesitate to share them with us.
Please send us your work as an uncompressed Quicktime in
full PAL or NTSC Broadcast format on Data-DVD (or on Beta SP in PAL).
Deadline for submissions to be considered for the Pictoplasma NYC screenings is the 1st of July 2008.
Each submitted film/animation must be accompanied by a
completed entry form.
